Abstract
World-systems analysis, although itself a macrohistorical perspective, eminently allows for writing individual biographies because these are structurally conditioned and historically contingent trajectories developing in specific time and space. The biographical genre seems particularly useful in intellectual popularization and in exploring how macro-level concepts behave in observed empirical situations. This article offers and demonstrates specific recommendations and methodological warnings in application to the personal trajectory of Immanuel Wallerstein, the founder of world-systems analysis as an intellectual movement.

Сьогодні виповнюється 90 років видатному французькому соціологу П’єру Бурдьє (1930–2002). Теоретичний спадок цього сучасного класика, що синтезував у своїх роботах підходи Маркса, Дюркгайма й Вебера є завеликим, щоб розповісти про всі його аспекти, проте не викликає сумнівів його належність до критичної традиції соціальних наук через прискіпливу увагу до проблем конфлікту й панування. Це дозволяло Бурдьє побачити концентрацію капіталу та відтворення нерівності у таких буденних явищах, як система освіти або мистецькі вподобання. Наприкінці свого життя соціолог був активним учасником рухів проти неолібералізму. Сьогодні ми пропонуємо ознайомитись зі статтями самого ювіляра, а також із роботами, що співставляють його бачення суспільства із марксистським.
